今日、07/21に還暦を迎えるマイクル・コナリーのミステリー小説。数年前から読み始めました。ヘニング・マンケルが描いたヴァランダー警部のように、コナリーが描くボッシュ刑事に惹かれました。共に一人娘を持ち、妻と別れた中年刑事。ロスアンゼルス市警のボッシュ刑事の眼を通して、「天使の街」の光と闇を知りました。コナリー自身レイモンド・チャンドラーの大ファン。1973年ロバート・アルトマン監督作品「長いお別れ」で、私立探偵 マーロウが猫と一緒に住んでいたペントハウスを数年間借りて住んでいた時期があるそうです。そこで書き上げたのがリンカーン弁護士シリーズだとか。現在テレビドラマシリーズ「ボッシュ」も放映中です。
Micael Connelly, who splits his time between LA and Tampa, recently bought a cottage in the Hollywood Hills, a few blocks below the imagined house where Harry lives. He grew up in Florida and first set foot in LA aged 30, when he became a crime reporter at the Los Angeles Times. He was also a big fan of Raymond Chandler's The Long goodbye ,for a while, he even rented the same apartment in Hollywood's High Tower Court that Elliot Gould's Marlowe had occupied in Altman's movie. He wrote The Lincoln Lawyer there. I only visited LA once, so through reading Chandler's books and Connelly's books, I was able to feel LA near me. Thanks to Michael Connelly, and Happy Birthday!
