沖縄に行くと立ち寄る「プラザハウス」1階の「タトルブックストア」で出逢った一冊、パウロ・コエーリョの「アリフ」。自叙伝的な作品で、以前から読みたいと思っていました。モスクワからウラジオストク迄シベリア鉄道に乗って旅する間に起こる、不思議な出会い、気付きを記した一冊。あっという間に引き込まれ、以前日本語訳で読んでいた「アルケミスト」「星の巡礼」も含め、実際の彼の経験に基づいて書かれた作品を、英訳で読んでみました。心に残ったフレーズをノートに書き留めながら、今月は四冊並行して読んでいます。
Paulo Coelho is a Brazilian writer and musician. The Alchemist, his most famous novel, has been translated into 80 languages. After making the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in 1986, he wrote The Pilgrimage. Next year, he wrote The Alchemist. His books really inspired my soul.
